![]() But even Blizzard… 2008 Blizzard at least… seemed to recognize that this was a bit of a punch in the gut. Yeah, you got used to flying there in end game Outland, but in Northrend you were back to walking again. It was the first post-flying expansion and started what was to become the grand tradition of WoW expansions by taking flying away from you almost immediately. They still wanted you to stay on the ground until TBC, but the easiest path to level 60 was just chain running dungeons through dungeon finder, so if you weren’t able to fly you were likely going to just teleport around the world until you could.Īnd, in between, was Wrath of the Lich King. With Cataclysm, which redid old Azeroth to allow flying, you could buy flying right away, right there on day one of the expansion, so long as you were level 60. You could get by without it if you were not raiding, doing a few dungeons out in Netherstorm, or engaged in some of the end game faction grinds. ![]() There was some end game content that required it, but it was not as integral to the expansion as one might have thought. The Burning Crusade introduced flying as a level cap bonus. ![]() Having been through the more than decade long struggle over flying in Azeroth, it has been interesting to be back in the early days when it wasn’t quite so fraught, and Wrath of the Lich King sits right there in the middle of the argument. ![]()
